Job purpose:


1. Provide leadership to the team in the provision of a safe, high quality service to children and families that complies with legislation, guidance and local policies.

2. To manage the performance of the team and ensure practice standards are maintained in line with national, corporate and team objectives.

3. To contribute to the development and implementation of local plans and initiatives.

4. To drive forward continuing improvement.


Key service accountabilities:


Leadership

1. To actively promote the service with service users, colleagues and other staff within and outside the Department.

2. To chair meetings, lead working parties and to represent the Department in discussions with other agencies at the discretion of Senior Management.

 

Knowledge base:

1. To maintain up to date knowledge of research, Departmental policies and procedures and to have in depth knowledge of legislation and guidance relevant to providing services to children and families.


Case Management:

1. Ensures cases are allocated and up to date case plans are in place in all cases.

Supervision and line management

1. To prioritise and ensure supervision is actioned as a key management activity.

2. To prepare for and undertake supervision of team members, review progress and give relevant and constructive feedback and case management support, in line with departmental polices.

3. To identify areas for continuing professional development needs for team members and self and maintain requirements for professional registration.

 

Risk management:

1. To identify and respond to the most risky and/ or high profile cases within the team, service and in accordance with procedures


Communication

1. Communicates effectively with staff, colleagues, service users and other partner agencies.

2. To ensure team members maintain behaviours consistent with the value base and underpinning principles of the service.

 

Managing resources

1. Understanding the basics of managing resources, including budgets and Human Resources. Is able to accept accountability for effective usage.

 

Managing performance:

1. To demonstrate and model a high standard of practice under their own direction, that reflects a value based approach to working with children and their families and is child centred.

2. To ensure all work is recorded accurately, and in a timely fashion using the Integrated Children’s System, and that records are compliant with Data Protection legislation

3. To use Management Information systems to retrieve high quality information and use this to inform resource allocation and future service development.

4. To lead, encourage and support team members to deliver a service in line with departmental objectives, and provide professional knowledge, advice and challenge

5. To contribute to the development and progression of the relevant performance plans and targets

6. To effectively manage staff, and carry out delegated Human Resource functions including sickness management and performance management

 

Strategic management:

1. Understands how national, regional and local policies impact on the strategic agenda.

2. Works at a strategic level with colleagues to develop the overall service.

3. To recruit and retain staff with the relevant skills and abilities and ensure team members are managed in ways that promote their effectiveness in delivering a quality service

4. At the discretion of their Manager such other activities as may from time to time be required to ensure the needs of the service are met
